Our Nature of Treatment + Policies
Last Revised: August,2024
Nature of Treatment (Individual)

(i) Evaluation and treatment planning: Approximately 1-3 sessions, (ii) Intervention: Depends on many factors, such as the nature of your difficulties and readiness for change, (iii) Termination: Approximately 1-2 sessions, involves developing a “toolbox” of strategies that may be used to help you maintain your treatment gains and reduce the likelihood of relapse and/or reoccurrence. Treatment effectiveness varies from person to person. Discussing, working with, and changing thoughts, feelings, and behaviors may sometimes be painful and challenging.
Our Approach

Your intake facilitator will complete an intake assessment to understand how your current difficulties may have developed and are maintained within your life's various contexts. The results of this assessment will be shared with you, and a treatment plan will be developed including some potential goals for therapy and the strategies that may be used to help you reach your goals. Throughout the therapy, you are invited to share any concerns or questions that you may have about the therapy process. This helps the therapist to personalize the treatment strategies to better match your unique needs. Services are by appointment only unless attending our walk-in therapy program. Please note that we are not a crisis clinic and if you are in a state of emergency, please call 911, or Telehealth at 1-866-797-0000.

Fees + Payment

Sessions are approximately 45-60 minutes in length. Every attempt is made to see clients on time. Payment is required after your session. Payments can be made by cash, debit, credit card, or e-transfer. Administration can give you an invoice for your insurance claim if applicable. Clients are expected to attend every scheduled appointment. If you cannot attend, please contact the Clinic ASAP to cancel or reschedule. There will be a fee of $50 for missed appointments. Exceptions are permitted for emergencies.

Cancellation Policy

At Empowerment Health & Wellness, we do not require a 24-hour notice to cancel or reschedule your appointment, however, please do not abuse our system and let us know ASAP if you need to cancel or reschedule. We understand that things come up last minute but please be as respectful as we are committing our time as well. If you have missed an appointment, without notifying our clinic, there will be a $50 fee. Exceptions are permitted for emergencies. Clients are required to let their Clinician or Administration know if they are not wanting to continue therapy services for safety purposes only. Clinicians will never take offense to services stopping but do have a responsibility to ensure that safety is a top priority. If Clinicians have reason to believe that a patient can harm themselves and/or others, emergency measures will be executed (i.e. contacting emergency contacts and/or 911). In our intake forms, patients sign that they understand this policy.

Confidentiality Policy

Psychological records may include items such as personal information, progress notes, and evaluations. No information about you can be released to a third party without your prior written consent, or verbal consent in the case of an emergency. Exceptions include: (1) when children are under 18 years of age, and their parents/legal guardians want access to the file, (2) risk of imminent danger, such as detailed planning or concrete signs of future suicide attempts, death, risk of a child running away, or serious bodily harm to an identifiable person or group, (2) suspected or known abuse or neglect of a child or older adult, (3) unsafe operation of a motor vehicle, (4) requests ordered by a court of law, or (5) access is required by other personnel (e.g., administrative staff) to carry out their professional duties. Therapists must, as soon as the interest of their client so requires, receive supervision, consult another therapist, a member of another professional order, or another competent person. Disclosure of identifying information will be minimized, and names will not be released without consent. Please note that individuals under 18 years of age cannot provide legal consent for themselves. To receive therapy services, a guardian must come initially to sign paperwork on their behalf.

Mutual Rights + Responsibilities

The relationship must remain limited to a respectful therapeutic framework. You may refuse any therapeutic suggestions offered to you, or to suspend or cease treatment at any time without penalty. If you decide to stop treatment for any reason, please notify your therapist for safety concerns so that your file can be closed and/or you can be referred to another resource.
